The 2023 Gooding Pro Rodeo was record breaking – both inside and out of the arena. Gooding saw record crowds with 3 out of 4 nights being sold out, a record number of contestants with almost 800 competing, and a record payout where almost a quarter of a million dollars was paid out. Records were broken inside the arena as well, in the Breakaway Roping – Addy Hill and Braylee Sheperd both roped their calf in 1.9 seconds – breaking the old record of 2.2 set in 2022. The Barrel Racing could only be described as unbelievable with 5 ladies tying or breaking the arena record set last year. In the end, Dona Kay Rule smashed the old record of 16.88 seconds with her 16.76 second run.
Travel anywhere rodeo fans are gathered and mention “Beer Worthy” and they immediately know you are talking about the Gooding Pro Rodeo. Several years ago, a group of rodeo fans stole the clown’s signs when he set them next to their box seats. The following night, they decided to make signs of their own. Some cardboard and a few markers later and the “Beer Worthy” sign was born.
What does it take to be “Beer Worthy”? Many have tried, several have failed, some risking life and limb in the quest to be worthy. Fast runs and great rides are always considered to be worthy. However, riding behind the pickup man and tripping the flank on the bronc you just got off of, trying your guts out on an unrideable animal and coming up just short, or finishing your trick riding act and grabbing a cold one on the way by are a different level of “Beer Worthy”. In other words – “Cowboy Stuff”.
Don’t miss out on one of the most enjoyable and greatest PRCA rodeos in the country – August 14-17, 2024. Are you “Beer Worthy”?
